Ownership Report Enforcement !?!

Earlier this week, I received a telephone call from an FCC staff member. The staff member asked if one of my clients had filed his 2013 biennial ownership report. It turned out he had filed it but somehow got on the “bad boy” list accidentally.

I was very surprised to receive a phone call about a tardy ownership report! In the 32 years I’ve practiced FCC law I never received a phone call from anyone at the FCC chasing down a tardy ownership report.

The staff member made it clear that this was not an enforcement call. What does that mean? I believe it means that the FCC is now handing out “warnings”. Quite possibly the actual tickets could come later.

This is a great example of big government. Obama promised us a very big government and the government is definitely getting bigger and the FCC is no exception.  I just can’t help but think that our tax dollars could go towards something with greater social utility.
